1 June 2020 – Power and Unity in Numbers

Weekly YES Quote!

“There is power in numbers and there is power in unity.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

This week I had originally planned on speaking on how my community is starting to slowly open up because we have come together as a community to keep each other safe. Which is still important; however, the events that have come about in our nation in the last few days cannot go without being spoken about.

I am a white woman who has many friends of different colors, cultures, backgrounds, and sexual orientations.

I consider myself as a very open minded and accepting individual, but I also have never lived in fear because of the color of my skin.

Tell me your stories.

I do not want to be another ignorant white person who unknowingly perpetuates the status quo.

I want your voices heard.

I want to be an ally.

I want to walk with you.

There needs to be a change in our system.

There is still a deep rooted prejudice that exists in our country that is not regularly acknowledged at a level that will evoke this change.

That complacency has to end. It must.

As the late, great Martin Luther King, Jr. once said,

There is power in numbers and there is power in unity.

This is unlike any of my other weekly yes quote posts, and it’s because it matters more: it’s heavier.

So please, with all your hearts and feelings and emotions and everything in your being, share.

Because your voices deserve to be heard, and through your voices we can all be brought together.

We’re a community, and we need to act like one.

I want to honor George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Eric Garner, and all the black men and women who have been killed when the camera wasn’t rolling.

I haven’t much more to say other than that.

So please, take the time to share.

My eyes and ears are open.

We are together.
