Weekly YES Quote!

Weekly Reflection

Today is my 30th birthday!

Throughout our lives there’s always something we are looking forward to, and I’ve being looking forward to ringing in a new decade surrounded by my friends and family for the past year.

Maybe you’ve been looking forward to your high school dance, your graduation, your family vacation, marrying your best friend, or finally retiring. All those celebrations where you anticipated being able to be with the ones you love the most.

I remember watching my friends and acquaintances celebrate their 30th birthdays over the years and excitedly thinking, “what will I do to celebrate my 30th birthday?”

Never in a million years would I have thought I would have a Quarantine 30 and be unable to physically celebrate with my people.

I keep telling myself that I need to be grateful for what I have and for the time we live in.

We have the technology readily available to connect with loved ones all over the world. I can cheers my loved ones from my living room knowing we’re still sharing this moment together. However, I still feel a pang of sadness not having their presence with me, and that’s okay too. I have accepted that I can be thankful and disheartened.

Feel what you feel, but love what you have. You’re so fortunate to simply be here. I feel fortunate that you’re here.

I have decided that I don’t need a special travel plan, a big party or even a night out with friends. I am simply fortunate I get to turn 30.

My challenge to myself today and everyday this week is to wake up and allow myself to feel both sides of my emotions, but to choose gratitude.  At the end of the day, my birthday is just another day. It’s up to me to make it into something more.

I want you to wake up every morning feeling the same: like every day is your day and you have the power to choose the attitude that you will face it with. We’ve all lost something during this time, but the one thing that can never be taken away from us is our outlook. Our perception is what we get to consciously choose no matter what life throws at us. Hang on to that and wield its power.

Weekly Challenge

Let go of the expectations you have set for what you imagined your life to be like and instead embrace what you do have, what you are able to do, and where you can go.

Throw on some Doris Day and rememeber “Que Sera Sera.” (What will be, will be).

I’m stoked to turn 30 no matter what is going on around me and what phsyical limitations have been imposed on our lives. There is no limitation on my ability to choose my attitude.

Let’s be stoked to start this Monday and take it on together.
