11 May 2020 – Unexpected Happenings

Weekly YES Quote!

“Let this unexpected happening point to your strength not your weakness. Maybe you’ve been entrusted with this. Not cured with it.

Weekly Reflection

The last couple of weeks I’ve shared a lot of my experiences and feelings with you in order to challenge you to take on the week and all weeks to come.

Not that there’s anything wrong with sharing my experiences… rest assured many weeks to come will stem from my experiences and feelings. But this week I really want to focus on you.

How are you

Please, take a moment to pause and really ask yourself the question: “How am I?”

You’ve been through a lot over the course of this last month or so, and you’re finally going to start gaining back privileges – you’re going to start gaining back your life.

It doesn’t matter where you live – your location only changes the number and extent of the privileges you’re receiving back. It only matters how you feel.

We’ve lost loved ones, we’ve lost routines, we’ve lost income, we’ve lost relationships that we weren’t able to cultivate… you may have lost even more than that, and I send my heart out to you if that’s the case.

Regardless of the weight of your losses, I encourage you to cheer up and push ahead!

Think about:

  • who you’ve been wanting to give a big bear hug to,
  • what activities you’re going to partake in that you’ve since been unable to,
  • when you’re going to congratulate yourself for mentally getting through this,
  • where you’re going to go for your first meal out of the house,
  • why you’re fortunate to be here, and
  • how you’re going to take the next steps towards your new norm.

I’m not saying to forget the past. That would be irresponsible for I’m a firm believer that you cannot know where you’re going unless you know where you’ve been.

I am saying to look ahead – you have so much more life ahead of you!

This was simply a massive speed bump which reminded us that we’re not invincible just as your car wouldn’t be when hauling over that speed bump at greater than 25 MPH.

It has reminded us that all of our needy, immediate gratification we’ve developed isn’t the way to live a full life.

Before quarantine did you ever take the time to,

  • think before entering someone else’s personal space,
  • wash your hands to aid in not spreading germs everywhere,
  • pick up the phone to call someone who matters to you just to tell them you were thinking about them,
  • step outside onto your home simply to appreciate the warmth of the sun on your skin,
  • request to have the privilege to work from the comfort of your home so you could have at least one super productive day without coworkers interrupting you at your office desk,
  • try out a new food or drink recipe, or
  • emotionally check in with yourself to ensure your organs weren’t being replaced with metal parts?

You didn’t ask for this quarantine or some of the negative energy it’s brought into your life.

But what you can do is embrace the good it’s brought to your life, and harness that good energy for your future.

Weekly Challenge

Again, check in with yourself by asking yourself, “How am I?”

What answers did you derive from the reflection questions above?

Did you write them down?

Well, if you haven’t already, write the answers to the reflection questions down.

Please, don’t roll your eyes or think whatever lady.

Write the answers in your journal, on a note pad, in a Word document on your computer, or even on a paper towel or square of toilet paper (if you have some to spare – giggle) in bold Sharpie.

The power of transferring thoughts and emotions from within to life via ink on paper is so empowering. You can see it, feel it, and reflect back to it.

You’re so important!

Don’t let the negative energy win out or forget all the obstacles you’ve overcome through this growing process as you gain back privileges and start paving your new path.

You’ve had a chance to reset.

You’ve had a chance to reconnect with your life.

You’ve had a chance to pursue new things that otherwise you’d never have taken the time to look twice at.

Use this as a stepping stone towards a better, happier, and healthier you.

Hug yourself when you feel the negativity trying to push it’s way in. Embrace yourself like you’ve never embraced yourself before. Then, when you let go, remember how the pressure felt and let it compel you forward.

As this week’s quote by Lysa Terkeurst’s in her book, The Best Yes: Making Wise Decisions in the Midst of Endless Demands, says,

“Let this unexpected happening point to your strength not your weakness. Maybe you’ve been entrusted with this. Not cured with it.

Don’t abandon all that this quarantine has brought you, or disregard who it has made you into.

For some of it, maybe with or without knowing, was necessary to fill out your life so you could live the life you deserve.

Reminder to Just Say Yes!

As always, say yes to experiences that present themselves to you! Life is full of fun and wonder – don’t be stuck at home wondering what life could be like, should be like, would be like… drop that nonsense! Get out there, say yes, and never look back!
